Naunton, and other mellow Cotswold villages off the beaten track
The main "popular" towns and villages in the Cotswolds have been
covered on other pages. But if, like me, you want to get away from the crowds,
then here is a selection of charming places that not so many tourists get to
- Naunton - rural bliss, what the Cotswolds used to be
- Filkins - with its craft shops and weaving mill
- Great Barrington - beside the beautiful wrought iron gates
of the Palladian mansion, Barrington Park
- Minster Lovell - a picture postcard village of thatch and
stone, with a good pub
- Rissingtons - typical of quiet, beautiful Cotswold villages
- Stanton - another contender for the title of nicest village
in the Cotswolds
- Stanway - thatched cricket pavilion, Jacobean manor house,
stone cottages.
- Swinbrook - a stream flows through the village green, Nancy
Mitford is buried in the church
- Tews - Great Tew is caught in a time warp, with stone cottages
and thatched roofs
