Northleach, Cotswolds wool town

Northleach does not process wool today, but the signs from its past are all round you, starting with the "wool church". This is a name used to describe the large churches that were built in small villages with wool money in the middle ages. It is one of the finest of the wool churches built in the 15th century

The High Street is lined by the houses built by prosperous wool traders. The town is relatively untouched by tourism and gives you a good idea of what life was like. Wander the narrow side streets and imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages

The Countryside Collection can be visited in the old town prison. See the Tudor almshouses.
